Admission

Do I need to book admission tickets online?

Book online to save up to £2 per person and to guarantee availability.

We have a limited number of spaces available for each day. We advise booking online in advance to avoid disappointment.

Can I book admission tickets on the day?

Yes, if space is available, tickets are available on the day.

We advise booking online in advance to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be purchased online on the day to save up to £2 per person.

Tickets can also be purchased at the “Hive” admission desk on arrival.

Can I purchase train tickets in advance?

Train tickets can only be purchased at the Hive admission desk upon arrival.

This allows us to allocate you a time slot for your train ride, so you don’t have to spend time queueing.

Train tickets cannot be purchased in advance.

Access

Is the site accessible?

Paths are a mixture of wheelchair friendly gravel paths, cut grass paths and woodland paths. All are wheelchair accessible, some grass paths may be uneven in places, please let us know if you have any issues when visiting. We continue to upgrade paths with new wheelchair friendly gravel paths for 2025.

There are lots of seats around Woldies for regular breaks.

Buildings have level access throughout. Accessible toilets are available.

Can I bring a picnic?

Yes! We have lots of picnic benches around Woldies.

Is there a cafe?

Woldies Teahive Takeaway is grab and go style takeaway café area.

Serving sandwiches, pasties, salads, cakes, ice creams, hot and cold drinks.

Children’s picnic bags are a popular choice.

We have a mixture of outdoor seating with some covered areas.

Your Visit

What should I wear?

Woldies Wild Play area consists of natural sand & water. We recommend clothes you don’t mind your child getting mucky and a spare change as kids are likely to get wet. There is a tap area to wash off within the Wild Play area.

Woldies is an outdoor attraction so please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs for showery days. The ground is very sandy so very rarely gets puddles.

There are outdoor sheltered spots and tree cover in places, but don’t worry we find the kids love visiting whatever the weather!

There are shaded areas and tree cover in places throughout Woldies and drinking water taps. Woldies new covered mud kitchen and sand and water play is a great addition for sunny or showery days too!

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are welcome in all inside and outside areas but please keep them out of the sand in the play area. Please be respectful of other visitors and make sure they are well behaved and kept on a short lead at all times. Please pick up after your dog, there are plenty of bins around Woldies.

How long can I spend at Woldies?

We recommend at least 3 hours but lots of our visitors stay all day, there is so much to do!

What age group is best suited to a visit?

All ages who enjoy the outdoors and nature.

We often get family groups and love to see Grandparents, Parents, Kids & Dogs all enjoying quality family time together!

Woldies play areas are great for under 11’s. Foot golf and pool, the games maze, and nature gardens suit older kids and big kids too!

Our seasonal nature trails and nature mission are enjoyed by all ages, with or without kids!

When are the gardens in flower?

Our daffodil walk and spring bulbs and blossom are beautiful throughout Easter, April and May.

After this the wildflowers flower, with a succession of plants through the summer.

Woldies Bee, Butterfly and Bird Gardens are planted to give flowering interest throughout the season. With daffodils and bulbs through Easter and early spring, then late spring Alliums, Nepeta and Geranium stand out, followed by Stachys, Phlomis, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Sunflowers and more.

The lavender varieties start to flower mid-June & throughout July and into August. Our inner gardens tend to flower before the more exposed lavender in the field.

Keep an eye on social media or get in touch nearer the time for flower updates.

Flowering varies slightly each year depending on the weather.

There is so much to see and do throughout the season at Woldies.

When do you harvest the Lavender?

We harvest and distil the lavender in late August. By September all the lavender is cut and distilled.

Is it easy to get to Woldies

Woldies is very easy to get to only ½ a mile off the A64 at Wintringham, near Malton.

The coastliner bus stops on the A64 at West Knapton, near the turning to Woldies. Please be aware if getting the bus the A64 is a busy road to cross with a walk down to Woldies.

The nearest train station is in Malton with trains going between Scarborough and York.
